From January 20 to 24, 2026, an interactive public exhibition was held in Diocletian’s Cellars in Split to mark the grand opening of the European project “Science Comes to Town,” jointly led by Kiel, Brest, and Split. As part of the program, on Friday, January 23, students from various music departments of the Arts Academy in Split, along with an alumna from the Department of Music Theory and Composition, held a series of interactive workshops for children and youth under the collective title “Music as a Source of Research.”
Young and older visitors alike had the opportunity to explore music in a creative, accessible, and experiential way, participating in activities that connected music with movement, imagery, and digital tools. Excellent feedback from both the organizers and visitors exceeded all expectations. Hundreds of children and young people left the event enriched with new experiences, beautiful memories, and a keen curiosity about music. Many also received promotional gifts, including tickets for the upcoming performance of the operetta “The Football Queen” (Kraljica lopte) at the Croatian National Theatre in Split, whom we would like to thank for their wonderful cooperation.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Student Council of the University of Split, which recognized the effort and engagement of the UMAS students and generously treated them to a group lunch, as well as to the University of Split for the excellent organization of the event.
The program was realized as part of the institutional research project “UMAS Incubator: Artistic Research in the Focus of the Community,” UMAS-In (IP-UNIST-58), funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU. The activity was led by Associate Professor of Arts Katja Repušić and Assistant Professor Jelica Valjalo Kaporelo, PhD, both members of the project team.
