ART – WITNESS OF TIME: Preservation of Skills and Revitalization of Traditional Sculpture and Conservation-Restoration Material Processing Techniques through a Contemporary Curriculum - UMAS-USV, IP-UNIST-59

Funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU UMAS USV

About

The project Art – Witness of Time arises as a joint initiative of the Department of Sculpture and the Department of Conservation-Restoration of the Arts Academy in Split, based on a shared interest in working with natural materials and preserving traditional knowledge. Through theoretical lectures, fieldwork, and practical workshops, the project explores traditional techniques of working with stone, metal, wood, and mosaic, with a special emphasis on the making and use of tools. The activities are designed to introduce students to the material processes that shape cultural heritage and enable them to understand the "traces of hands" on artifacts over time. Stone, as a symbol of Dalmatian heritage, remains a central focus, but the project also includes interdisciplinary approaches to heritage in a broader sense.

The project aims to reinterpret tradition using contemporary methods and technologies, thereby encouraging sustainable and critical heritage. All results – from video documentation to finished works and reflections – will be published digitally and made available to the public. The project thus contributes to the modernization of teaching, the strengthening of research competencies, and the preservation of intangible cultural heritage within an educational framework.
