Recording and archiving performances of musical heritage_1

As part of the "Recording and Archiving Musical Heritage Performances (IDIUP 1)" activity, audiovisual recordings of a musical performance by cellist Assistant Professor Vid Veljak and guitarist Assistant Luka Lovreković were conducted on September 30, 2026. Additionally, an extensive interview was held with composer Assistant Professor Šimun Čarli Botica, one of the most significant young Croatian contemporary music composers.

The activity focused on gathering material for the archiving of musical heritage performances, as well as for the IDIUP project’s documentary film and web database, placing special emphasis on methods for documenting, archiving, preserving, and interpreting musical scores and audio recordings.

The recordings featured a performance of *Omaggio a Bellini* by Pavle Dešpalj (arranged by Valter Dešpalj), interpreted by cellist Assistant Professor Vid Veljak and guitarist Assistant Luka Lovreković. The multi-layered recording took place in the open-air section of the Maritime Museum. The interview with composer Assistant Professor Šimun Čarli was structured around an exploration of audiovisual documentary practices regarding composition. Particular attention was paid to the relationship between compositional scores and their actual musical performances.

The activity was conceived and executed by Prof. Art. Slobodan Jokić (interview and moderation), Andrea Kaštelan (camera), and Jeronim Jandrić (sound). The collected materials contribute to the development of the IDIUP project's digital database and serve as a valuable research and educational resource for studying documentation, archival, and artistic practices within musical culture and art.

The collected content contributes to the development of the IDIUP project's permanent digital database, strengthens collaboration among musicians, researchers, and archival experts, and fosters the creation of new educational and research resources for students, educators, and the broader professional community. The results of these activities underscore the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to studying contemporary musical practices and their systematic documentation as a vital component of musical memory and heritage.
