Heritage in Progress - HIP UMAS, IP-UNIST-57

Funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU HIP UMAS

About

The project is based on interdisciplinary research into the musical and visual arts cultural heritage of Dalmatia, with the aim of its scientific evaluation, preservation, contemporary interpretation, and integration into educational curricula, artistic, and public spheres. At the core of the project are research activities that connect scientific, artistic, educational, and design practices, stemming from the specific activities of the Arts Academy in Split.

The methodological framework includes field research, documentation, analysis, digitization, workshops, and reinterpretation of heritage through contemporary design approaches. The project team explores both musical and visual arts sources, with a special emphasis on content that is underrepresented or insufficiently researched in the Croatian scientific and educational sphere. An important research component within the project is also the exploration of the relationship between technology and society through contemporary design approaches in developing speculative scenarios in the local context, with the aim of building the local community's resilience to the challenges of the 21st century.

The project has a strong public communication component – through a series of lectures and collaboration with cultural and educational institutions, the importance of cultural heritage is promoted, as well as the popularization of science, art, and design. A key role is also assigned to students, who actively participate in the research, workshop, educational, and presentation parts of the project, thereby further strengthening knowledge transfer.
