The Arts Academy in Split announces the workshop “The Beauty of Dust”, which will take place on 21 September 2026, as part of the institutional research project “ART – A WITNESS OF TIME: Preservation of Skills and Revitalization of Traditional Sculptural and Conservation-Restoration Techniques of Material Processing through a Contemporary Curriculum – UMAS-USV, IP-UNIST-59.”

The workshop is organized at the initiative of the Department of Sculpture, under the guidance of Assistant Professor Tomislav Šalov and Associate Professor Đani Martinić. The workshop is intended for teaching staff and students of the Department of Fine Arts at UMAS, with particular emphasis on students and teaching staff of the Department of Sculpture and the Department of Conservation-Restoration. Its aim is to connect different professional fields, facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience, and strengthen shared professional and practical capacities.

The workshop brings together craft knowledge, artistic practice, and a conservation-restoration approach to stone working, enabling participants from different professional backgrounds to explore, through collaborative hands-on work, the characteristics of the material, its possibilities, and the traces of human intervention. At the same time, the acquisition of traditional knowledge and practical skills contributes to the development of participants’ competencies and better prepares them for future professional practice and the labour market.

The workshop begins at 9:00 AM at the Arts Academy in Split, Hercegovačka 65, 21000 Split.

The workshop is intended for students and teaching staff of the Arts Academy at the University of Split, specifically the Department of Fine Arts at UMAS, with particular emphasis on the Department of Sculpture and the Department of Conservation-Restoration.

The number of participants is limited, and registration is required.
