From September 23 to 28, a study trip to Venice was organized by the Department of Painting of the Academy of Arts at the University of Split as part of the institutional research project Contact: Art in the Community – KUZ (IP-UNIST-56).
The trip was attended by 19 students and 7 faculty members. The central part of the program was a visit to the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, including tours of the Giardini, the Arsenale, and the Croatian Pavilion.
The program also included visits to Palazzo Grassi, Punta della Dogana, Palazzo Fortuny, and Fondazione Prada – Ca’ Corner della Regina, providing insight into a variety of contemporary artistic, curatorial, and exhibition practices. Particularly noteworthy were Erwin Wurm’s exhibition Dreamers and the way it was integrated into the existing display at Palazzo Fortuny, as well as Helter Skelter: Arthur Jafa and Richard Prince at Fondazione Prada. Through the appropriation and reinterpretation of images from popular and media culture, the latter exhibition raises questions of identity, representation, and the social significance of visual content.
The six-day study trip provided students with direct exposure to current international artistic production, an opportunity to explore diverse approaches to artistic creation and exhibition-making, and a chance to connect these experiences with their own artistic and research work.
