The Painting Department and the public cultural institution Galerija Kula are pleased to invite you to the opening of The Ultimate Environment, 2026, an exhibition by artist Oscar Tuazon, which will open on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 7:00 PM at Galerija Kula, Ulica kralja Tomislava 10, Split.
On this occasion, artist Oscar Tuazon will give a presentation of the project and speak about his own artistic practice. The conversation with the artist is intended for students of the Arts Academy as well as the general public.
The aim of these regular presentations of artists and their work within a specific gallery space is to provide experience which, through the process of realizing an exhibition, offers students broader insight into the creative, conceptual, and organizational aspects of artistic practice in real, professional situations and within a contemporary art context.
Oscar Tuazon is an artist who lives and works in Los Angeles. He currently runs the Cedar Spring Water School in the Great Basin region of Nevada, a long-term land return project developed in collaboration with the Goshute Tribe. He studied at The Cooper Union and the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program in New York. He is among the founders of the Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP) in New York, established in 2000; castillo/corrales in Paris, founded in 2007; and the Los Angeles Water School (LAWS), launched in 2016. He has participated in the São Paulo Biennial, the Chicago Architecture Biennial, the Whitney Biennial, the Venice Biennale, and the Skulptur Projekte Münster. His solo exhibitions have been presented at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, Le Consortium in Dijon, the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, Bergen Kunsthall in Norway, Kunsthalle Bielefeld in Germany, and the Kunst Museum Winterthur in Switzerland. In 2025, he completed a major public art project for the city of Seattle.
The exhibition will be open from March 10 to April 30, 2026.
