Production of a Documentary Film and the IDIUP_6 Database
As part of the activity "Production of a Documentary Film and the IDIUP_6 Database," an audiovisual recording session and an interview were conducted on October 16, 2027, with Sanja Iveković—one of the most significant contemporary Croatian artists—and Dr. Ivana Bago, an art historian, curator, and researcher. The session took place at the Institute’s premises in Zagreb and was focused on gathering material for a documentary film and an online database for the IDIUP project.
During the conversation, the goals and activities of the Sanja Iveković Institute—a non-profit research platform dedicated to the preservation, study, and activation of Sanja Iveković’s artistic and activist archive—were presented. Particular attention was given to the processes of organizing, interpreting, and publicly presenting archival material, as well as to how an artistic archive can be understood as a dynamic site for the production of new knowledge, meanings, and social relations.
The participants discussed the long-term research into the artist’s personal and professional archive, which encompasses sketches, photographs, videos, project documentation, correspondence, and other materials created from the 1970s to the present day.
The discussion raised questions regarding the relationship between a document and an artwork, the distinction between private and public archives, and the importance of documenting artistic practices for future research. The role of the archive in preserving cultural memory was highlighted, as was its value as a research, educational, and social resource. The discussion provided valuable insight into contemporary methods of archiving and documenting artistic production, as well as the challenges surrounding the preservation of—and access to—artistic materials in the digital age.
The activity was conceived and carried out by Prof. Art. Slobodan Jokić (conducting the interview and moderating the discussion), Full Professor of Art Toni Meštrović (camera), and Assistant Professor of Art Gildo Bavčević (sound). The collected audiovisual materials will be incorporated into a documentary film and the digital database of the IDIUP project, contributing to the documentation of contemporary artistic, archival, and documentation practices.
