On Thursday, 15 October 2026, at 10:30 AM, as part of the Artist Presentation series, Kaloyan Ivanov will be a guest at the Department of Painting, Arts Academy in Split (Teslina 12, 3rd-floor foyer), on the occasion of his solo exhibition Triadista at Studio 21 Gallery, curated by Josip Šurlin, Teaching Assistant at the Department of Painting.

Kaloyan Ivanov (Sofia, 1986) is a Bulgarian artist working in the fields of painting, performance, and installation art. He graduated with a degree in Painting from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn in 2009. His work has been exhibited in Bulgaria, Croatia, the United States, and South Korea, among other venues, including the 28th Slavonian Biennale at the Museum of Fine Arts in Osijek.

The Triadista series, currently exhibited at Studio 21 Gallery, consists of thirty black-and-white paintings executed in acrylic on canvas mounted on arched wooden panels, recalling the form of an iconostasis. The title derives from the medieval name of Sofia, and the series combines iconographic forms with abstract geometric motifs drawn from the legacy of American Modernism.

The conversation with the artist will provide an opportunity for the audience to learn first-hand about the development of the exhibition, the creative process, and the interpretation of painting through its structural and symbolic categories, the geometric relationships between pictorial fields, and references to medieval iconography.
