The Arts Academy of the University of Split announces the professional and artistic research program “Art in Public Space”, which will take place from 20 to 22 May 2026 as part of the institutional research project “ART – WITNESS OF TIME: Preservation of Skills and Revitalization of Traditional Sculptural and Conservation-Restoration Material Processing Techniques through a Contemporary Curriculum – UMAS-USV, IP-UNIST-59.”
The program is organized at the initiative of the Department of Sculpture under the guidance of Associate Professor of Art Robert Jozić, with the aim of encouraging reflection on and promoting art in public space, particularly artistic interventions within natural environments. Through lectures, research activities, and workshops, students and faculty members will explore the possibilities of contemporary artistic practice in the area of Marjan Forest Park, with special emphasis on sustainability and the reversibility of interventions.
The three-day program begins on Wednesday, 20 May, with public lectures at the Arts Academy in Split (Hercegovačka 65), starting at 9:15 a.m. The lectures will address topics including Land Art, art in nature, and the art of Bonsai.
The practical part of the program will take place on 21 and 22 May in Marjan Forest Park. It will involve students and faculty members of the Department of Sculpture, who will, in collaboration with the staff of Marjan Forest Park, visit previously selected locations and conduct professional and artistic research into potential sites for artistic interventions in the space. The program also includes an artistic workshop during which a site-specific spatial intervention, based on a concept sketch by Associate Professor of Art Robert Jozić, will be realized. The intervention will be carried out in accordance with the principles of ecological sustainability and will be fully reversible.
The lectures are open to the public and free of charge for all interested visitors, while the practical part of the program is intended for students of the Arts Academy of the University of Split, Department of Sculpture.
