About the author and the work:

The author of the performance's textual source is Jerome David Salinger (1919–2010), an American novelist and short story writer. His most famous work is the novel "The Catcher in the Rye", a story about growing up and alienation, told from the perspective of a young rebel named Holden Caulfield on the run and wandering through New York.

Teddy is a short story published in the collection "Nine Stories". The main character is an interesting and exceptionally intelligent boy, Teddy McArdle, through whom Salinger attempts to introduce readers to some of the basic concepts of Zen enlightenment, as a kind of resistance or response to American cultural chauvinism of the 1950s. This period is firmly linked to the concepts of "American Exceptionalism", the "American Way of Life", and the dominant sense of superiority that developed in America following its victory in World War II. The USA became the leading economic, military, and cultural power in the world, glorifying and imposing its values, social norms, and consumerism as a global standard (Americanization).

The story consists of several vignettes taking place on a luxury cruise ship. The events unfold approximately between 10:00 AM and 10:30 AM on October 28, 1952.

The performance is part of the institutional research project "UMAS Incubator: Artistic Research in the Community Focus (UMAS-In), IP-UNIST-58".
